World steel output at five-year high
Steel production is up to a five year high globally, according to some recently released statistics.
In line with the uptrend in steelmaking, capacity utilization in June increased to 78.5%, the highest level since April 2013 when it was at 80%. The June level was 3.8 percentage points higher than June 2017. Compared to May 2018, it is 1.0 percentage point higher.
North America was the only continent with a declining rate, despite an increase in US steel production, which was offset by decreased production in Canada.
